LEGAL HOLIDAY

Teacher will discuss with students about friends.
Teacher will explain the importance of friendship.
Teacher will discuss with students about what makes a person a good friend.
Teacher will demonstrate.
Teacher will stress the importance of trust, honesty, and loyalty.


Activities:
Students will go around the classroom with worksheet and try to interview as many as they can. (15 mins)
(Teacher will provide worksheets and procedures)
Teacher will demonstrate.
Students will count how many classmates they interview.
Teacher will ask students; how many friends did they make.
Teacher will congratulate the class for making many friends.

R E C E S S

Students will spell their first name only with macaroni and/or beans.
Teacher will demonstrate.
Students will let their art work dry on the counter for the next day.

Teacher will discuss with students about familiar rhymes.
Teacher will provide examples on the board.
Teacher will read rhymes on board.
Teacher and students will read together.
Teacher will read rhymes using finger snap and stomp sound.
Teacher and students will read and do sound movement together (2x).
Students will read rhymes and do sound movement without teacher guidance.
Teacher will provide copy of familiar rhymes to students to practice at home with mom and dad.

Activities:
Students will work on the next alphabet letter; tracing and matching.

R E C E S S

Students will continue working on alphabet.
Students who are done will work on their math worksheet activity (what is before, between, and after a number (s)).
Teacher will discuss with students about how oil and water differ.
Teacher will show a sample of oil and water in jar.
Teacher will provide each table with materials.
Teacher will instruct and demonstrate experiment.
Students will listen and follow instructions.
(Each student will be given a chance to do a task)
Students and teacher will then shake the jar and place on table.
Students will watch the oil and water wiggle and move and make designs.
Teacher will ask students questions; what do you see? do you see a design? is the oil and water mixing?
Students will walk around the other tables to watch the jars with a different color or two colors added.

Learning Center
Teacher will have students working at the LC.
Teacher will provide procedures.
Each table will rotate; there are four activities.
Teacher will play music while students are working at LC.
Teacher will work with students who need help.

Teacher will read a flannel board story; “Helping Out”

Teacher will stop and ask questions.
Teacher will discuss with students at the end of story.

Activities:
Students will draw and color their favorite part of the story.
Students will watch a movie about friends and being helpful.

Note: Students will watch the movie until dismissal time at 10:30am.

Daily Task

Students line up outside.
Teacher guide students into the classroom.
Take out shoes and place them on the rack as students enter classroom.
Take out “HOMEWORK” folder and place on teacher’s desk.
Place school bags on the counter.
Go to the “GREEN” carpet and sit down. On the Carpet

Teacher will take attendance.
Teacher will assign a student to bring attendance sheet to the office.
Students will sit in a circle.
Students and Teacher will sing Good Morning/Afternoon song.
Students will recite ESLRS and Peace Builder Pledge.
Students will sing Peace Builder song.
Discussion: What is ESLRS?
What is Peace Builder? What does it mean to be a Peace Builder? (give examples) Teacher Ask

How many days in a week? Students recite.
- what day is between Friday and Sunday?
- what day is after Monday?

How many months in a year? Students recite.
What is today’s date? Students recite.
Teacher will assign a meteorologist (student will check the weather outside then returns back to the carpet) Students will ask: (Name of Student), what is the weather today? Meteorologist will respond: Today’s weather is _________ (sunny, cloudy, rainy, etc)

Activity

Materials: Dry macaroni, glue, construction paper (assorted colors)


Objective: SWBAT spell his name using pasta noodles
SWBAT develop visual discrimination


Activity: - Teacher will provide example of how to make macaroni name.
- Teacher will demonstrate activity; students will listen and follow directions.
- Students will write their name on the construction paper.
- Students will trace their name using macaroni.
- Teacher will assist students who need additional help.
- Teacher will encourage students to glue the macaroni on paper - in the shape of their name.
- Teacher will provide students with their cut-out photos to glue under their name.
- Students will place their macaroni name on large table and counter to dry.




OIL & WATER
Activity


Purpose: Basic Science (Kindergarten)
Materials: jar, oil, water, food coloring (4)


Objective: SWBAT explain that oil and water are different.
SWBAT watch the oil and water wiggle, move, and make designs.
SWBAT learn that this project can make a beautiful lava lamp.


Activity: 1) Fill a jar half full with water, and add vegetable oil to the other half.
2) Add a few drops of food coloring.
3) Put on lid and shake.
4) Students can watch the oil and water wiggle, move, and make designs.
5) Teacher will explain that oil and water are different and do not mix.
6) Discussion.


Q&A: a) How many colors do you see?
b) What kind of design do you see?
c) Do you think this would be a nice gift for your mom?

Homework: Students will recite the familiar rhymes at home with mom and dad tonight. They will share with their classmates the next day.
