WASC team impressed by
San Antonio school's progress

THE visiting team of the Western Association of Schools and Col¬leges yesterday said they were impressed by the progress made
by San Antonio Elementary School in complying with WASC's recommendations.
"They have done a very good job," Patricia Bergin, the WASC team leader told Variety.
During its third day of review, the four-man team learned how the teachers and students "dedi¬cated themselves" to achieve their goals, Bergin said.
Team member Janet Knoeppel said lack of funding didn't pre¬vent the school leadership to com¬ply with WASC's recommenda¬tions.
The teachers are very innova¬tive in utilizing their available resources_ in guiding and taking
care of the school and the chil¬dren, Knoeppel said.
The team, whose other mem¬bers are Sandra Joan Watanabe and Ruth Fox, will meet again today to discuss their evaluation of the school's progress.
Their recommendations, Bergin said, will be submitted to WASC's main office in California, which will make the final decision.
In a separate interview, San Antonio principal Katrina S. Lizama said the WASC team "gave us inputs" regarding com¬pliance with the recommenda¬tions.
Lizama said she is confident that the school, with the constant cooperation of its teachers, staff and parents, can accomplish heir goals and maintain their WASC accreditation.
