Rainbow Behavior, Classroom Rules
Rainbow Behavior System
The Rainbow Behavior System consists of 5 rainbow colors worth 5 points (1 point each color). The Rainbow colors are RED, YELLOW, BLUE, GREEN, and ORANGE. How it works is all students are at the RED color level. A student loses one rainbow for the following reasons:
1. misbehaving (called 3 times)
2. interrupting class
3. talking too loud during class work
4. hits and/or teases another student
5. answers teacher back
6. uses bad language (curse/cuss/blaspheme)
Each student is given a set of Rainbows. This way the teacher keeps track of the students’ behavior cards. Students who sustain their RED color level each day will be rewarded at the end of the week. As this system progresses, other students will want a reward yet they have to earn it.
Students will be warned 3 times, after that they lose one rainbow each time the teacher approaches them. Once the students reach the ORANGE color level they lose their recess. Students will remain in the classroom and will eat their snacks if they have any otherwise the teacher has prepared class work for them. Students will eventually miss being with their classmates and friends at recess so they have to make the choice; playing and laughing with friends at recess by keeping their Rainbow at RED or lose their recess and stay in the classroom at ORANGE.
This Rainbow Behavior System is part of a classroom management that helps discipline students. Students’ behavior will change slowly in the classroom. The teacher must be consistent and firm about this behavior system. It is not enough for teachers to continue calling students every time they break a classroom rule yet they continue until they have broken all the rules. If a Behavior System is applied in the classroom, students will be well discipline.
Before beginning the Rainbow Behavior System, I will discuss with the students and demonstrate some examples with them so that they are not shock about a new procedure that is taking place in the classroom. It is very vital that students are aware of the changes.
I look forward to working with my Master Teacher as I apply the Rainbow Behavior System in our classroom it will be successful and learned by the students. As part of my classroom management, students seating will be arranged every month.
